Creating a Quiz Submission View

Quiz submission views are what students see after they complete a quiz and their quiz scores have been published. The default submission view only shows students their score on the quiz. The default view can be modified and/or additional date restricted submission views can be created.

Note: If students need to read feedback provided, it is necessary to set up certain submissions view options which are not on by default.

Modify the Default Submission View

  1. Select More.
  2. Select Quizzes from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select the drop down adjacent to the quiz name.
  4. Select Edit
  5. Select Submission Views.
  6. Select Default View.
  7. (Optional) Modify the default submission message to the student in the Message window.
  8. Under "View Details", the default is set to "No" which means only the students score will be displayed. Select Yes to modify.
  9. After selecting Yes choose one of the following options:
    • Show questions answered incorrectly: Questions graded with a point value of 0 will be displayed. Partially-correct questions graded with a point value less than the total possible points for the question will be displayed. Questions will retain their original numbering even if gaps in the numbering exist. Instructor provided feedback is also displayed.
    • Show questions answered correctly: Questions that are graded with a point value greater than 0 will be displayed but questions that are graded with a point value of 0 will not be displayed. Questions will retain their original numbering even if gaps in the numbering exist. Instructor provided feedback is also displayed.
    • Show all questions without user responses: All questions will be displayed, without any of the student's responses.
    • Show all questions with user responses: All questions will be displayed, along with the student's responses to those questions. Instructor provided feedback is also displayed.

Note: To allow students the ability to view instructor feedback either "Show questions answered incorrectly", "Show questions answered correctly", or "Show all questions with user responses" must be selected.

  10. Select if question answers and/or score should be displayed. Either, both, or none can be selected. If selected:
      • Show question answers: Displays the answers next to each question that appears. Answers will not appear for questions that are not displayed.
      • Show question score out of score: Displays the points earned on each question and total points possible (recommended).
  11. Leave Show attempt score and overall attempt score checked to display the students score as soon as the attempt is submitted. The score that is displayed is only what the system is able to auto-grade. "Allow attempt to be set as graded immediately upon completion" (Assessment setting) must be checked for the grade to be displayed upon submission.
  12. To share the quiz class statistic results with the students, select Show class average and/or (Optional)Show score distribution .
  13. When complete, select Save.

Create Additional Quiz Submission Views

Additional quiz submission views are used to release additional information to students either after a particular submission attempt (if multiple attempts are allowed) or after a date has passed (like after the submission date has ended).

Note: It is recommended that a second Additional View within the Submission Views tab be created. In this view select No in the "View Details" section and select the date/time the first additional view should close to students. This second additional view will “shut down” the first additional view as only the most recent submission view is the active one. Adding this additional view ensures that quiz questions and answers are not available past the time intended to be available and is particularly important if the course will be copied into a future term. Failure to “shut down” the first additional view will allow students in future terms to see the expanded submission view immediately after completing the quiz, which could facilitate cheating.

  1. Select More.
  2. Select Quizzes from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select the drop down adjacent to the quiz name.
  4. Select Edit
  5. Select Submission Views
  6. Select Add Additional View.
  7. Add a name to the submissions view in the "Name" field. Students do not see this view, so it is recommended that the name describe the attributes of the view (e.g. "Show answers after due date").
  8. (Optional) Modify the default submission message to the student in the "Message" window.
  9. Select View Details (see steps under Modify the Default Submission View)
  10. Add a time and date in the "Date" field. The time and date control when the submission view is available. If a student completes the quiz prior to the availability date, they will see the default view. Additional views are available to student from their Quiz List.
  11. If the quiz setup allows students to take more than one attempt additional settings are required:
    • Specify which quiz attempt corresponds to the custom view being set up. In the "Attempt" field, use the dropdown arrow to select the attempt number.
    • Specify a score range for when the custom view will be shown. An attempt number must also be specified.
    • Set a minimum score and a maximum score by filling in the "Min Score %" and "Max Score %" fields.

Note: If left blank, both the Min Score and Max Score default to 0, and only students who got a 0 will be able to see this submissions view.

  12. (Optional) Set a limited duration. This setting is used to restrict the number a minutes a student has to see the submission view.
  13. Select Save to set the additional view.
  14. Repeat as necessary.
